The Narra Collection

Some collections start with a design. This one started with a tree.

Narra is a tropical hardwood from Southeast Asia and the western Pacific, and it's one of the few woods that gives you two completely different materials from the same species. There's narra itself: warm, golden to reddish brown, and steady. And there's amboyna burl: the same tree growing wild, all swirls and tight little eyes. Every cane in the Narra Collection uses both.

What ties the Narra Collection together?

Amboyna burl is the burl of the narra tree (Pterocarpus indicus). So every cane in this collection carries narra twice: once as amboyna burl, and once in the body. The rest of the materials change from cane to cane, but that pairing stays the same.

What is narra wood?

Narra is the timber of Pterocarpus indicus, a tree native to Southeast Asia and parts of the western Pacific. It's known for its golden to reddish-brown color, good natural luster, and figure that can run from calm and straight to curly and shimmering. The canes

The Narra Collection No. 1

Where the collection began. An amboyna burl handle over a body of curly narra, which shimmers as the light moves across it. The collar is silver leaf suspended in deep purple resin, bordered with aluminum.

The Narra Collection No. 1
$850.00

FREE SHIPPING*, CUSTOM PADDED STORAGE CASE, RAIN CASE, & CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY WITH EVERY CANE PURCHASE. SALES TAX INCLUDED IN PRICE.

The Narra Collection begins here, with a celebration of one of Southeast Asia's most beautiful hardwoods.

The handle is crafted from Amboyna Burl, a rare burl harvested from the Narra tree. Highly sought after by woodworkers and collectors, Amboyna is prized for its intricate eyes, swirling grain, and exceptional depth of figure. No two pieces are ever alike.

The body is made from curly Narra, a wood known for its rich golden-orange color and natural chatoyance. As the light changes, the figure shifts and shimmers, revealing new character from every angle.

Separating the handle and body is a collar of silver leaf suspended in deep purple resin, bordered with aluminum. The cool metallic tones provide a striking contrast while allowing the beauty of the wood to remain the focus.

Each cane in the Narra Collection is handcrafted one at a time, making every piece truly one of a kind.

The Narra Collection No. 2
$1,350.00

The Narra Collection continues with a cane built around contrast.

The handle is crafted from Amboyna Burl, a rare burl harvested from the Narra tree. Its glowing orange surface is packed with tiny eyes and swirling figure, so it looks different every time you turn it in your hand.

Separating the handle and body is a collar of ebony burl, bordered with brass.

The body brings three woods together: Narra, bright yellowheart and dark ebony, set in bold stripes that spiral down the full length of the cane.

This cane has a twin. No. 3 swaps the materials around, with an ebony burl handle and an Amboyna collar over the same striped body. Each cane in the Narra Collection is handcrafted one at a time, making every piece truly one of a kind.

Why did No. 2 and No. 3 take so long?

The ebony burl. Its natural oils kept seeping out and staying tacky, so the finish wouldn't take. I had to do a special treatment to seal its natural oils in so that I could apply the finish. Getting it right took dozens, if not hundreds, of applications of oil and finish.
